Graduation FAQ 2012

What process do I need to complete to receive my certificate, diploma, or degree?

Since Southeast Technical only has one graduation per year, students who will be graduating Spring Semester, Summer Session, or Fall Semester 2012 should complete an Application for Graduation by Friday, February 24, 2012

When and where are the graduation ceremonies held?

Red Wing Campus

  • Location: Treasure Island Resort & Casino, Hotel Entrance

  • Time: 7:00 p.m.
  • Note: Students will meet at Treasure Island at 6:15 p.m.

Winona Campus

    • Location: Winona State University, Memorial Hall
      Johnson & King
      Winona, Minnesota
    • Date: Monday, May 7, 2012
    • Time: 7:00 p.m.
    • Note:  Students will meet at Winona State University, Memorial Hall – Talbot Gym at 6:15 p.m. 

Attention Red Wing & Winona Campus Nursing Students: All nursing students (Practical Nursing and Nursing Mobility) should report to the graduation hall (Treasure Island Resort & Casino Event Center & WSU Memorial Hall) for group photos by 5:45 p.m. Please be prompt.

Will a professional photographer be at the graduation ceremony?

Yes, Jolesch Photography will be taking professional photos of students during the graduation ceremony. Information on purchasing photos will be available at cap and gown pick up. The Jolesch Photography website can be found at www.jolesch.com

In addition to the ceremony, are there events planned for graduates and their families?

A reception with punch and cookies will be held for graduates, families, and friends immediately following the ceremony. 

Are guest tickets required for the graduation ceremony?

Tickets are not needed for the ceremony.

How long does the graduation ceremony last?

The ceremony runs approximately one hour and a half. All graduates and guests are expected to remain seated for the entire program.

How do I get a cap and gown for the ceremony?

All students from both campuses must wear a black cap and gown to participate in the ceremony.

Cost $15.00
If you already have a black cap and gown, you will need to pick up a tassel only.  Cost is $3.00.

Winona Campus Information

Winona Campus Student Senate will be paying for the cost of the cap, gown, and tassel.  If you already have a black cap and gown, you will need to pick up a tassel only.

Wednesday, April 18: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, April 19: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

How do I get graduation invitations and is there a cost?

A limited supply of graduation invitations will be available at all three campus reception areas and will be available the week of April 16, 2012.

Graduating with Honors?

Students who participate in the graduation ceremony and who meet the eligibility requirements will receive a gold honor cord which has been purchased by the Student Senate. Students should stop at the Registrar’s Office after the cap and gown have been picked up.

Honor status is given to students graduating from a diploma, A.A.S. or A.S. program and who have completed a minimum of 25 resident credits including credits from the last term before graduation. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.74 receive Honors designation. Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 to 4.00 receive High Honors designation. Final honor status is determined after final grades are received. Honor status will appear on the student transcript at the time of official graduation.

Are diplomas presented at the graduation ceremony?

You will not receive your actual certificate, diploma, or degree at the graduation ceremony. A cover will be given to you to place your document in after you receive it in the mail. The document will be mailed approximately 10 to 12 weeks after graduation when grades are finalized and the graduation is confirmed from the Registrar’s Office.

What if I need to change my graduation date to a later semester?

Please contact the Registrar’s Office at the campus you will be graduating from to change your graduation to a future term, or call the the college's main line at 877-853-8624.
