Section 215 - Transfer Credits From/To Another Institution

[ Back ]

Transfer of credit from another institution

  1. Application for admission is always the first step in transferring. The application should be completed and sent, along with the application fee, as early as possible prior to the deadline. (See admissions procedure).
  2. Complete the transfer-of-credit application form. This form can be submitted along with the College application form or sent independently.
  3. The student should request every institution attended to submit an official transcript to Southeast Technical Registrar's office.
  4. After notification of acceptance for admission, transcript credits will be evaluated for transfer. A written evaluation should indicate which courses transfer and which do not. How courses specifically meet degree requirements may not be decided until after the student arrives for orientation or after choosing a major.

Transfer of technical credits will only be granted for courses completed within five years of the request for transfer. There is no transfer time limit for general studies, general education or elective courses.

Transfer credits being considered must have a grade of "A", "B", "C", "M"(Mastery), "P" (Pass), or "S" (Satisfactory), and the coursework completed must match at least 75% of the content goals of the College's course syllabus for which the student is seek transfer credit. The nursing department requires a minimum grade of "B" for nursing courses. A "C" is acceptable if documentation is received from the sending college that a "C" is at least 85 percentage points out of 100 (85%).

Only courses that apply toward graduation requirements will be considered for transfer. Approved transfer credits shall appear on the transcript and will not be included when calculating the student's GPA.

To be eligible for a certificate, degree or diploma, a student must earn 10 credits or one-third of the program major graduation requirements, whichever is less, at Southeast Technical. This requirement is not in effect for students transferring from other Minnesota Technical Colleges.

  5. Students with questions about the evaluation should contact the Registrar's office. Students can appeal decisions by contacting the Registrar.
