Career Counseling

Students undecided about a program major or finding their current major not appropriate, may wish to talk to an academic advisor or College counselor. Career assessment and information is also available.

Educational Counseling

Counselors are available to assist new and current students make the transition from home to campus life. In addition, they work with students needing assistance with academic course and in the selection of courses appropriate to achieving success in their program major. The counselors also help identify, refer to, and facilitate utilization of student support services for students with barriers to learning.

Personal Counseling and Referral

Campus life includes personal interaction as well as academic performance. Personal anxieties and problems can stand in the way of successful completion of a program major. Talking with a counselor about personal concerns may be helpful. Referrals can also be made to counseling services within the community.

Support Groups

Students have the opportunity to discuss topics and issues concerning them in a group setting. Support groups on campus and in the community are available to serve a variety of student needs.

Student Personal Assistance Program

Southeast Technical College recognizes that personal problems can be a major reason for a student’s lack of success. The primary responsibility for dealing with personal problems rests with the student, but the College has a legitimate concern when student performance is affected. The College addresses such problems within the following framework:

The College recognizes that problems can be successfully dealt with provided they are identified in the early stages and referral is made for appropriate type of assistance. The purpose of this program is to assure students that, if personal problems are the cause of the unsatisfactory college performance, they will receive discreet assistance in seeking help to resolve such problems. Students who have a problem, which they feel may affect college performance, are encouraged to voluntarily seek counseling and information by contacting their instructor or campus counselor.
