Desire2Learn Help
Getting a student account
Before you can access your online courserooms, you must have a student account.
An account is set up for you after you are accepted as a student by the college
and register for a course. If you enrolled or registered just recently, your
account may not be set up yet. If this is the case, contact our Information
Technology department for help.
Accessing D2L
Registered students can access their course/s and college services by typing
in their username and password, and clicking the Login button. Use the same
name used on your college application. For example, if you go by Joe Doe,
but you identified yourself as Joseph Doe on your application, you need to
login as Joseph.Doe.
-
Open your Web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape)
- Type the following address in the location (URL) field: http://www.southeastmn.edu
- Click "Desire2Learn" in the lower left corner
- Click on the “Username” field and enter: Firstname.Lastname
(notice the dot)
- Click on the “Password” field and enter your birthdate
(YYMMDD) OR the last 6 digits of your SS#
Example: If Sandra Smith’s birdate was 1/1/75, she would login as
Sandra.Smith for the Username and 750101 for the Password.
- Click the "Login" button
- If you cannot login, call 651-385-6300 or 507-453-2700 and ask for Neva
Burdick.
You should now be at your home page for all your courses. Only those courses
defined by the instructor as online or hybrid will be accessable.
- Your "Home Page" navigation bar is in the upper left side of
the header.
- Your courses will be listed on the right side of the screen.
- Most face-to-face classes will not be accessable because the instructor
is not using D2L.
- Click on the title of the course in which you are enrolled.
- If you do not see the course(s) for which you registered, you have not
been "enrolled" in the course. This is common if you registered
late. Email or call your instructor
to confirm registration.
Navigating D2L
Each instructor sets up courses a bit differently, different links, different
colors, different folders, etc. See the D2L
tutorial for navigation instructions.
Spend an hour exploring. Click each link. Click on each folder. Read what
is expected of you as a student. Find out who else is in the course. Learn
how to use the student email system. Then, if you have questions, email your
instructor.
Not seeing or hearing all you should?
If you have an older browser or don't search the Internet frequently, you
may not have all of the 'plug-ins' you need. Plug-ins are files that allow
you to open or run other files, such as animated clips or movies. Blackboard
recommends several. Go to downloads & plug-ins
if you're not seeing or hearing everything you think you should to install
common plug-ins.
Taking a test?
If you are having problems losing your connection while you are taking a
test, chances are your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is disconnecting you
because they don't know you are online doing something. If you are using a
dial-up connection, you can often correct this in the settings. Contact your
ISP and ask them how to fix this.
If you need to retake a test because of a disconnection, contact your instructor.
It is always a good idea to print your work every periodically, just in case.
