Hardware & Software

When you take a Web -based class, you are expected to provide the following:

Southeast Tech strongly recommends that your computer exceed all minimum requirements to optimize your educational experience. It is further expected that equipment is in working order throughout the term.

Hardware

  1. Newer Computer:
    1. Windows 2000 or XP
    2. 600 MHz or faster processor
    3. 128 or more megabytes of RAM
    4. Sound card and speakers
    5. CD-ROM drive
    6. Monitor capable of 16-bit color or better
    7. Minimum 56K modem
  2. Regular access to the Internet:
    1. An Internet Service Provider (ISP)
    2. AOL is not recommended
  3. Web browser & several, free Web browser plug-ins

Software

Some software is also required for each online course and you are expected to be able to use the software on a basic level.

  1. Word Processing
  2. Spreadsheet
  3. Microsoft Office XP (for ADMS, COMC & COMP courses):
    1. Southeast has negotiated special pricing with Microsoft and other software publishers (e.g., Office XP (Professional Edition) is only $74.60). For additional information call Southeast Bookstore (Winona, 507-453-2700).
    2. Most of the software can also be accesses via Terminal Services, but a fast Internet Connection is required (LAN, T1, etc.). Please check with the instructor.
  4. Some courses require very specific software. See the Course Table for specific requirements.
  5. The college computers do not have the software needed for all online courses. You are expected to have the software on your computer.
