Orientation

  1. Become technically literate.
All students must, at a minimum, know how to use Word processing software and the Internet at the start of the program.
  2. Review and comply with the college's policies, including the Computer Code of Ethics.
  3. Learn to use the college's email system.
  4. Become familiar with Desire2Learn.
  5. Learn how to register for courses.
  6. Learn how to get books from college bookstore.
  7. Login to your online courses the first day of class.
Login the first day of the course to ensure you have access. Go to Accessing Courses for detailed instructions.
  8. Complete a Proctor Form (if required by instructor).
In order to take tests for your course or courses, you may need a proctor. Complete the online Proctor Form if required (ask instructor if you are not sure). You will need to complete a form for each course requiring it.
  9. Check your e-mail...often!
It is important for you to check your email at least twice a week. This form of communication links you with your instructor and is required for successful completion of your course(s). (If you do not use your email for 60 days, your account is closed. You will need to contact IT to regain access.)
  10. Participate, participate, participate!
"Attendance" is required. You MUST communicate with your instructor weekly by email, phone, and/or discussion board. Not doing so will jeopardize your grade and financial aid.
Weekly participation is required or you will be classified as a No Show. This will jeopardize your grade and capacity to obtain financial aid. You are liable for all tuition and fees unless you properly withdraw.

This orientation continues with two more more concepts:

  1. Accessing Courses
  2. Tips for Success
