Hardware & Software Requirements

To take a Web-based class, students are expected to provide their own:

Southeast Technical strongly recommends that your computer exceed all minimum requirements to optimize your educational experience. It is further expected that equipment is in working order throughout the term.

Software Requirements

Some software is also required for each online course, and students are expected to be able to use the software on a basic level.

  1. Word processing
  2. Spreadsheet
  3. Microsoft Office 2007 (ADMS, COMC, COMP, PSYC, NANY courses):
    1. Southeast has negotiated special pricing for students with Microsoft and other software publishers. (e.g., Office 2007 (Enterprise Edition) is only $92.70 + S/H $8.95). For additional information call Southeast Bookstore (Winona, 507-453-2700).
    2. Most of the softwares can also be accesses via Terminal Services, but a fast Internet Connection is required (LaN, T1, etc.). please check with the instructor.
  4. Some courses require very specific software. See the Course Table for specific requirements.
  5. The college's computers do not have the software needed for all online courses. The student is expected to have the software on their computers.

    2. 600 MHz or faster processor
    3. 128 or more megabytes of RaM
    4. Sound card and speakers
    5. CD-ROM drive
    6. Monitor capable of 16-bit color or better
    7. Minimum 56K modem
  2. Internet:
    1. an Internet Service provider (ISp)
    2. aOL is not recommended
    3. Speed - 56k modem, DSL, Cable
  3. Web browser & several, free Web browser plug-ins
