General Education Courses

General education is an important component of a quality education and Southeast Technical offers students many general education courses to meet their degree or transfer requirements.

Degrees, Diplomas & Certificates

Southeast Technical offers over 70 degrees, diplomas & certificates. For students who want to complete a 4-year degree at another college, Southeast Technical also offers the Minnesota Transfer (MnTransfer) Curriculum which means general education courses that meet the MnTransfer criteria transfer to any public college in the state. Degree Options

Associate in Science Degree (AS)

An Associate in Science Degree may be awarded for successful completion of a program in a designated field or area which transfers to a baccalaureate major in a related scientific or technical field. An Associate in Science Degree must have one or more articulation agreement(s) between the institution awarding the Associate in Science Degree and an institution awarding a related baccalaureate degree. An A.S. degree may also be designed to prepare students for employment. An Associate in Science Degree is designed to provide a substantial general education component. General education courses shall be selected from at least six of the ten goal areas of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. Students enrolled in an AS degree program must earn at least 30 transfer level general education semester credits to graduate.

Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS)

Associate in Applied Science Degree range from 60 to 72 semester credits in program length and may be awarded for successful completion of a program primarily intended for employment. AAS degrees are typically not designed for transfer; however, other accredited colleges may transfer part or all of the credits depending on a student's particular situation. Southeast Technical also has articulation agreements with other colleges and universities allowing students to transfer credits towards a Baccalaureate degree. Students transferring credits through an articulation agreement must transfer the credits according to the terms and conditions of the articulation agreement. Students enrolled in an AAS program must earn at least 21 transfer level general education semester credits that include at least three (3) different transfer goal areas to graduate. Diploma (D)

Diplomas are 30 to 72 semester credits in length and may be awarded for successful completion of a program intended to provide students with employment skills. Graduates of a diploma program are prepared in a skilled or semi-skilled profession. Diplomas are typically NOT designed for transfer. Credits may be able to transfer through articulation agreements with other colleges and universities. Students enrolled in a Diploma program must earn at least two (2) credits of Communications/English and two (2) credits of Mathematics as well as any other general education courses listed on the specific program plan. Certificate (C)

Certificates are 9 to 30 semester credits in length and may be awarded for successful completion of a specialized program. A certificate provides entry-level skills. Certificates are typically not designed for transfer.
