- Advanced Standing Agreements
Definitions
An Advanced Standing Agreement is a written agreement
between public schools and post-secondary institutions to provide students
the opportunity to receive advanced placement standing for selected high
school courses.
The linking of secondary and post-secondary institutions
provides students the opportunity to make a smooth transition from one
level to the next without experiencing delays, duplication of courses,
or loss of credit.
Advanced standing makes sense when programs are coordinated
to:
- eliminate unnecessary duplication of instruction
- provide opportunities
for advanced training
- increase flexibility in scheduling
- promote
more informed career decision making
And best of all, advanced standing
agreements save time and money!
Students from over 18 area high schools earn college credit and advanced
placement in Southeast Technicalcareer programs for courses taken in high
school. Southeast Technical faculty members have worked with high school teachers
to identify competencies that are common at both the high school and college
levels. They have signed an agreement that allows you to earn college
credit for achieving these skills.

Local Articulation Process
To initiate course articulation with Southeast Technicalplease follow these
steps:
- Contact the Tech Prep Office to inform them that you are interested
in articulation. They will then set up a meeting with the appropriate
staff from either campus.
- At the meeting, if there is agreement that a course can be articulated
with Southeast Technical, fill out the Request for Articulation form. Be
sure that both parties sign the back and include appropriate course
information. The Southeast Technical instructor will include a list of outcomes
that the high school student needs to demonstrate to be eligible for
a certificate.
- The Request for Articulation form is then returned to the College's
Tech Prep Office. Certificates will then be generated and will be mailed
to the instructor along with a copy of the Request for Articulation
form.
- A Letter of Agreement will then be mailed to the high school principal
or superintendent explaining the articulation process and listing the
agreements between Southeast Technicaland the high school. The signed original
needs to be returned to the Tech Prep Office to keep on file. A copy
of the Request for Articulation form will also be mailed at that time
as well as a sample certificate.
- Articulation agreements need to be updated ONLY when a change in instructor
or curriculum is made at either the secondary or post-secondary level.
The College Tech Prep Office will monitor changes in articulation agreements.

Prep Office.
