Applying for Admission

To obtain an AAS degree, diploma, or certificate:

  1. Complete a MnSCU Application form OR a Returning Student form. If you are applying for an online major or to take only online courses be sure to write "online" after your choice.
  2. Send the application with a $20* check or money order to the admissions office at the college offering the degree option you wish to seek. (*This one time fee is required by Minnesota regulations and therefore must be included with your application before any processing can occur).
  3. Request documentation to validate high school graduation or attainment of a General Equivalency Diploma or official transcript from a regionally accredited college documenting an A.A.S. degree or higher. (Most colleges require a signature and a fee prior to mailing out a transcript.)
  4. After you have been accepted, you will be asked to complete the Accuplacer test--unless you already have an Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college--that will enable us to place you in the appropriate level of classes. You will not be allowed to register until this this step is completed. This test is available for free on any MnSCU campus. Contact us for scheduled testing dates and times. A keyboarding test may also be required for your major.
  5. Complete any appropriate financial aid applications. If you choose not to pay for your college education as you go (by check or credit card), you should seek financial aid (grants, loans, scholarships) early.
  6. Talk with a counselor who will discuss your assessment results and advise you about registering in courses consistent with your present academic level.
  7. Attend a new student orientation (available on registration days). You will be asked to attend an orientation session before classes begin. At orientation, you will meet advising and career counselors, register for classes and buy books. These tasks should be done before classes start to make your semester start an easy one. If you cannot attend, contact Enrollment Services.
