Outstanding Alumni Awards
Established in 2005, Minnesota State College – Southeast
Technical’s annual Outstanding Alumni Awards are presented at graduation to two
outstanding alumni -- one from the Winona campus and one from the Red Wing
campus. Now is the time to consider nominating someone for this prestigious honor.
Criteria for Outstanding Alumni Awards
Earned a diploma or degree from Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical more than 5 years ago;
Professional and/or personal achievement (e.g., career achievements, obstacles overcome, etc.);
Service to others (e.g., community service, service clubs, church, volunteerism, etc.);
Support to Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical (e.g., financial, board representative, advocacy, volunteerism, support/employment of grads, etc.);
Able to attend the graduation ceremony.

In 2014, the college honored Rick Spitzer
(Winona) and Brenda Stelter (Red Wing).
Richard (Rick) V. Spitzer completed the Machine, Tool &
Die program at Southeast Technical (then known as Winona Technical Institute)
in 1989, and returned to study Drafting and Design in 1994. Now Director of
Application Support at Miller Ingenuity in Winona, he began his career as a
machinist making molds and dies in 1988 and has steadily progressed through a
number of important roles, including Director of Manufacturing (2001) and
Director of Safety and Manufacturing (2005). He was promoted to his current
position in 2009, and oversees the development and implementation of new
products. He has served as a volunteer for many projects in the community and
retired with 20 years of Honorable Service from the National Guard in 2006. Read the full profile
A graduate of Southeast Technical’s secretarial/clerical
program in 1983 and Supervisory Management A.A.S. in 1997, Brenda Stelter went on to
earn bachelor’s degrees in business management and marketing. The owner of
Anchor Promotions, Apparel & Signage in Red Wing, Brenda has been in
business since August 2004, assisting clients with promotional products,
branded apparel, signs, banners, decals, cut vinyl, signage and graphic design.
Her outstanding commitment to personal customer service has helped her stand
