Basic Rider

Minnesota law requires anyone under age 18 to pass an approved rider training course. The BRC is about 14.5 hours long and combines practice riding on a closed-off parking lot and valuable classroom discussion.

Classroom discussions include protective gear, preparation, risk management, responsibility, street strategies, special riding situations, alcohol and drug impairment, motorcycle laws, and equipment requirements.

The riding portion begins with mounting the motorcycle and identifying its controls. The course is divided into two levels:

Advanced Motorcycle Training

CDL InstructorWhether you've been riding for one year or 20, riders need to keep learning. That's where the Experienced Rider Course (ERC) comes in. Riders hone their mental strategies to a razor-sharp edge and practice advanced motorcycle handling skills. Certified instructors draw from student knowledge and experience to coach riders to success. If you're comfortable on your own motorcycle and ready to try something new, the ERC is exactly what you’re looking for whether you're relatively new to motorcycling or have been riding for years.

The course covers mental strategies, traction, and risk management based on findings from motorcycle crash research. Braking, cornering, and swerving techniques are practiced during the on-cycle exercises.

We recommend that you have at least one year or 1,000 miles riding experience before enrolling in this course. Course meets for 5 hours.
