Financial Aid Application Process

While the Financial Aid Office processes applications for assistance on an on-going basis, it is recommended that you apply as soon as possible after April 1st for enrollment starting with the fall academic term. It is beneficial to have your tax returns from the prior calendar year completed before filling out the FAFSA for the upcoming academic year. It is possible to use estimated tax information, but it may delay the processing of your file. You may be asked to submit a copy of your tax returns to the Financial Aid Office for verification of your application so make sure you keep a copy of your tax returns for your records. Do NOT send your tax returns to the Financial Aid Office unless specifically asked to do so.

To apply for grants, loans and work study follow the steps below:

  1. Complete FAFSA
A student must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. You may complete the FAFSA using one of two methods:
    • Complete the FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov following the on-line instructions. Be sure to enter Southeast Technical College's (Title IV code 002393). When you have entered all the required information, you will be prompted to sign. If you are a dependent, your parents also need to sign. You may print the signature page, sign and mail it - OR - if you have a PIN, you can electronically sign your FAFSA. Parents with PINs can also electronically sign (if you don't have a PIN, you can apply for one now by going to www.pin.ed.gov).

      OR

    • Fill out the paper FAFSA application using the instruction booklet and black ink or a #2 pencil. Make sure you release the information to Southeast Technical College (Title IV code 002393). This will allow the results or your Student Aid Report (SAR) to be electronically transmitted to Southeast Technical for eligibility determination. Photocopy the form for your records and mail the original in the envelope provided in the booklet. Do NOT send any extraneous materials with your FAFSA.

  2. Complete Southeast Technical's Direct Deposit Authorization Form
A student must also complete the Southeast Technical's Direct Deposit Authorization Form which is available to complete online under Financial Aid forms.

  3. Apply and be Accepted for Admission to Southeast Technical
If you are a new student, apply and be accepted for Admission to Southeast Technical. Questions on admission applications can be directed to enrollmentservices@southeastmn.edu.

NOTE:
Should your financial situation change after you have completed the FAFSA or if you feel the FAFSA does not accurately reflect your current family and/or income circumstances, the Financial Aid Office may be able to assist you.

You can expect to receive a response from the Financial Aid Office about four weeks after you have submitted both the FAFSA and the Southeast Technical Campus Financial Aid Application:

The Award Notice

The Financial Aid Award Notice is your official eligibility determination from Southeast Technical. Your eligibility is based on your enrollment level(s) for the academic year. The award notice will be mailed to you and students who have already attended orientation can view their award notice online as well. Keep this important document for future reference. If a loan or work-study is included with your award letter and you would like to receive either the loan or work-study, additional paperwork needs to be completed.

You must re-apply annually for financial aid.
