
The State of Minnesota has available employee health insurance and employee basic life insurance. Insurance-eligible employees are given the opportunity to enroll in their choice of plan during identified open enrollment periods. Collective bargaining agreements identify the eligibility standards for partial and full-employer contributions to insurance. The 36th day of employment is the effective date of insurance
Employees are automatically enrolled in the health and dental premium pre-tax account for any insurance premiums deducted from payroll warrants. The opportunity exists for employees to also enroll in the dependent care expense account and the medical/dental expense account during designated open enrollment periods.
Employees have the opportunity to make changes in their insurance plans. Specific changes and availability of health and dental plans are provided to each employee through the Department of Employee Relations. Locally, the staff from the human resources office coordinates the open enrollment efforts and is available to answer employee questions.
Upon employment with the college, eligible employees are automatically enrolled in a retirement plan. The type of position held in the college will determine if an employee is enrolled in the Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS), Teachers Retirement Association (TRA), or the Individual Retirement Account Plan (IRAP). An employer contribution exists for these plans. After meeting eligibility criteria, unclassified employees are enrolled in the Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP).
Other plans exist for employees at their option. They include the Deferred Compensation Program (IRS 457) and the Tax-Sheltered Annuity Program (IRS 403(b)).

Eligible employees accrue paid vacation and sick leave based on the collective bargaining agreement for their position. Vacation leave for eligible employees can normally be used after six (6) months of employment. Eligible employees are able to use sick leave based on collective bargaining language once they begin accruing leave. Employees may request to use accrued leave by completing the Employee Leave Form.
Call-in procedures are determined by an employee’s immediate supervisor.
An employee should work with their supervisor for their department’s
call-in-procedure when they are unable to report to work.
Paid holiday leave is based on individual collective bargaining agreements. Currently, eleven paid holidays are identified, including one floating holiday. A schedule is developed annually by Payroll.
