Guitar Repair and Construction Program Instructors
• Brian Boedigheimer
Brian Boedigheimer received his diploma in guitar repair and construction from Red Wing Technical College in 1994. For 12 years he repaired instruments independently for music stores throughout the St. Croix Valley and began teaching instrument construction in 2000. Brian also worked on design and built electric guitars with the Benedict Guitar Company.
In 2003 he attended the Wood Finishing Technology Program at Dakota County Technical College where he learned all aspects of wood finishing, conservation, restoration and refinishing. After graduating from DCTC he was accepted into the “Preservation of Transparent Coatings” workshop held in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute and DCTC. Currently he teaches full-time in the Guitar Repair & Construction Program and in his spare time he designs and builds his own line of instruments.
In his own words:
“As a graduate of the program, I can say that students who complete the guitar repair and construction diploma have an excellent foundation to begin their career as luthiers or guitar repair technicians. Our program here in Red Wing is serious work for serious people. This work is fun and challenging but it does require more than enjoying the company of a guitar to be successful. Part art, part technology, lutherie is a lifelong learning process.”
