Violin Repair Program - Optional Coursework

Students attending the Violin Repair Program also have the option to build an arch top instrument if they so desire. Most students choose to build either a violin or mandolin as it closely matches the curriculum of the Violin Program, but on occasion, some students have chosen to build an arch top guitar.

This course is designed to be systematic in its approach to building any arch top instrument, and the steps in the building process are the same. The choices for instrument design are limited to:
     • 1715 Strad Model violin
     • "A" Style Mandolin (with sound hole or f holes)
     • Benedetto style Archtop Guitar (non cutaway)

There is a manual designed specifically for the course and recommended resource books and materials will be presented as the class progresses.
