An anonymous donor has given $25,000 to Southeast Technical College of Winona and Red Wing – one of the largest single gifts from an individual in its history – to be used to create the Ron Wenzel Outstanding Alumnus Scholarship.

In 2005, Ron became the college’s first outstanding alumnus for the Winona campus.  This scholarship was set up to recognize Ron’s professional and personal accomplishments along with his caring and compassionate personality.

“This gift is a great tribute to Ron. He has been a leader in the community and we are pleased he is being recognized in this way.  We are honored that this donor has faith in Southeast Tech and has chosen to invest in us,” said Jim Johnson, president of Southeast Technical College.

The Southeast Technical Foundation’s Scholarship Program is designed to increase access and affordability to higher education.  Through the program, the foundation awarded more than $112,000 in financial support during academic year 2009-2010.  Scholarship applications are reviewed by members of the foundation’s Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of community volunteers dedicated to reviewing more than 200 applications annually.

 Permanent link

David Lee Echelard will present a “Vocal Recital of European Art Songs” in the Watkins Manor Great Hall, on Sunday April 25th, 2010 at 4:00 pm.

The recital will consist of French Mélodie, German Lieder and Italian Art songs, accompanied on piano by Nancy Edstrom.

The art song recital has been a close collaboration between the singer and pianist.

The chosen European Art song repertoire speaks through beautiful melodies, musical atmosphere,  a fusion of language and tone, and penetrates the boundaries of "Art" and popular culture.

The recital format is of a refined, subtle style of singing, which is formal and old fashioned for some modern day popular audiences.

The Watkins Manor Great Hall is located at 175 E. Wabasha Street in Winona. Adults $8.00 & $6.00 for seniors and children.

For further information contact: David Echelard at 457-9600    echelard@hbci.com

The Program is produced in cooperation with the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, Inc. through funding from the Minnesota State Legislature.
