Degree Requirements

Students should carefully review both the general education requirements and the technical requirements indicated on the Program Plan (see catalogue), as well as the Course Descriptions for course prerequisites and offering schedules, as well as course descriptions.

Technical Courses

All technical courses are required unless students have program-related certifications which they can verify or feel they have enough experience to test out of a course. Discuss this option with your advisor.

General Education Requirements

If you already have an Associate’s degree or have completed many of the General Education (GenEd) coursework, you will not be required to complete all of the GenEd requirements, but the registrar's office must review your transcripts for transfer of credit. Students without this background will be required to take the Accuplacer test that will enable us to place you in the appropriate level of classes.

State Policy requires that all students meet the Accuplacer test minimum scores to get into the 2000 level communications and math courses. If you did not, you will need to take and pass the prerequisite courses (Basic Math and/or Introductory Algebra, Basic Communications) prior to taking the 2000 level course. See General Education Course Requirements for details.

Planning Strategies

It is recommended that students plan how they will complete their degrees as soon as they become accepted to the college. Full-time students and part-time students, as well as those transferring in courses, should discuss a completion strategy with their advisor. Be aware that many courses have prerequisites, so taking more advanced courses before the recommended prerequisites would damage a student's success. See Program Details.

Transfers and Articulations

Southeast Technical has articulation agreements with other colleges and universities allowing students to transfer credits towards a Baccalaureate degree. Students transferring credits through an articulation agreement must transfer the credits according to the terms and conditions of the articulation agreement. One of those articulations is with Capella University a virtual university offering Baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctorate programs. For more information concerning articulation agreements at Southeast Technical, please contact Student Services.
