A: As a technical and community college, many of our programs require hands-on training in our labs, including most majors in Engineering, Manufacturing & Trades; Health Sciences; Cosmetology; Musical Instrument Repair; and Transportation Careers. At this time, these programs will be held on campus, unless there are any further COVID-19-related restrictions.
To keep the number of people on-campus as low as possible, most other courses will be held using distance learning technologies. These include majors in Business & Management; Education & Human Services; Information Technologies; and Liberal Arts & Sciences. This is a good time to strengthen your computer skills as we all prepare for a future that's changing because of Covid-19.
Even before COVID-19, almost 40% of our classes were delivered online -- our excellent, experienced instructors will make sure you get the best education possible if you are taking classes via distance learning technologies. We are here to support you!
A: On-campus programs are held following safety guidelines such as social distancing, limited class sizes, and rigorous cleaning procedures. Seating arrangements in classrooms have been modified so that students are spaced at intervals consistent with social distancing. Campus maintenance staff are making sure that facilities are cleaned and sanitized every day.
Our faculty have developed creative solutions to make sure on-campus students have a safe and exciting learning environment! They are using new technologies such as high-definition projectors for lab demonstrations, and Hy-Flex so students can choose to attend class in person or via Zoom. Instructors are designing lab projects that can be completed at home, reducing the number of students in the classroom on a given day.
A: We are continuously monitoring the college’s positive case reports and working closely with local and state agencies. While we are confident that the strategies we have put in place will allow the college to operate safely, we are aware that health department or state guidelines may change.
Because of this, our faculty and staff are prepared to quickly pivot if it becomes necessary. Each program that has an on-campus component has prepared a plan with specific actions to take if instruction must be moved off campus/online.
A: YES! All student services that we normally offer, including tutoring, advising, financial aid and more, are still available. These services are offered by phone, email, Zoom, or in person. To speak with Student Affairs staff, please call or email the office that you are looking to contact and a staff member will respond to you and find the best way to connect with you. A: YES! This can be a great strategy for maintaining your progress towards your educational goals while staying close to home. MSC Southeast offers the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MNTC) and several Transfer Pathway degrees which are accepted for transfer to other state colleges and universities, the University of Minnesota, and many private colleges and universities.
