Description

 

  1. Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation
  2. Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand/power tools
  3. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using appropriate tools
  4. Weld using various techniques and perform shop repairs utilizing robotic welder, milling machine, and lathe
  5. Work from blueprints and schematics and perform basic shop math
  6. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  7. This position primarily works 7 am – 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Mechanics respond to callouts outside of regularly scheduled hours as needed.
  8. This position requires working roughly one weekend per month and will compensate accordingly.  Employee receives time off during the week instead of the weekend.
  9. Utilize Mp2 maintenance software to enter work requests and locate parts in inventory
  10. Ability to learn and understand maintenance and operation of mineral wool production for the following: fiberization equipment, spinner wheels, drum filters, cupola emission systems, cupola equipment, water systems, fire protection systems, plant steam systems, Hoffman blowers, wool baling systems, blowchambers, bale handling equipment, and other mineral wool production equipment
  11. Operate forklift, skid loader, boom lift, scissor lifts, and other mobile equipment
  12. Follow instructions on printed work or customer orders to complete assigned tasks
  13. Maintain water treatment system for boilers and attain a boiler’s license
  14. Any and all tasks as assigned by supervisor or manager

Qualifications

 

  1. Must be capable and committed to working in a manufacturing setting in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and practices including LOTO, confined space entry, proper use of fall protection, rigging, and housekeeping.  Recognize unsafe conditions or hazards within work area.
  2. Prior experience in the previously mentioned areas is a plus
  3. Must have the desired technical skills to work as a maintenance mechanic
  4. Basic computer skills preferred to complete safety training and review work-related email
  5. Familiar with common hand tools and how to properly use them
  6. Good communication skills needed to work with coworkers and customers
  7. Demonstrates the ability to cooperate with co-workers in areas of safety, quality, and understands importance of completing assigned tasks and their relationship to other requirements

TITLE: Nutrition Educator

 

WORK TYPE:

Extension/Institute of Health and Well-Being

 

OFFICE LOCATION:

Division of Extension offices for this position are located in Baldwin, Ellsworth and Balsam Lake, Wisconsin.  Final location to be determined with successful candidate. 

 

PURPOSE AND PRIMARY FOCUS OF POSITION:

 

The Nutrition Educator is an integral member of the UW-Madison Division of Extension and the Pierce, Polk and St. Croix Counties FoodWIse program team and works alongside the people of Wisconsin to improve lives and communities. Extension serves the people and communities of Wisconsin by addressing local, statewide and national issues, improving lives through research-based education, fostering partnerships and action, and facilitating positive impacts.

 

Our nutrition educators are peer educators who work closely with the FoodWIse Nutrition Program Coordinator to support and empower people to adopt healthy food and physical activity habits by delivering education where people live and work. Education topics include:

-          basic nutrition

-          low impact physical activity

-          food safety

-          food budgeting

 

This position is a part of the Division of Extension Institute of Health and Well-Being and the FoodWIse Program. FoodWIse is a community-based nutrition program that seeks to empower individuals with limited incomes to make healthy choices to achieve healthy lives and reduce health disparities. FoodWIse is federally funded by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) grants.

 

 

POSTION DUTIES:

 

Programming (80%):

       Teach culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons;

       Reach and engage diverse audiences in ways that are inclusive and do not discriminate;

       Build rapport with participants while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.

 

Collaboration and relationships (10%):

        Collaborate with local colleagues to promote a positive office environment, determine local needs and share resources;

        Develop and maintain respectful working relationships;

       Promote University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension and its programs to build greater access, visibility and value.

 

Administrative and Programmatic Accountability (10%):

        Report to the Nutrition Coordinator;

       Participate in FoodWIse training and professional development;

       Communicate regularly and appropriately with direct supervisor and colleagues;

        Arrive to teaching sites on-time;

        Work independently and communicate effectively with program partners;

       Maintain organized program participation and evaluation records;

       Report results in a timely manner;

       In keeping with the purpose of this position, promote and practice healthy eating and, as physically able, low impact physical activity concepts during teaching sessions;

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

       High school graduate or equivalent;

       Ability to teach interactive lessons to children and/or adults in group settings;

       Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology;

        Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.

       Volunteer or work experience related to food and nutrition education;

       Spanish speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge of Hispanic/Latino culture;

        Understanding of the culture and history of the St. Croix Chippewa Nation;

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

        The primary accountability relationship for this position is the Pierce, Polk and St. Croix Counties Nutrition Program Coordinator (Area 5) for supervision, compensation and benefits and performance reviews.

        This position’s primary programming focus is in Pierce, Polk and St. Croix Counties; however, some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area.

        Office location and programming coverage is contingent on continued availability of federal funds and location may be reassigned to align with funder and Extension programming priorities.

        Assume daily travel throughout geographies served and occasional travel within the state.

        Expectation to make arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.

        Work evenings or weekends as needed to meet programming needs

        Must be able to carry educational equipment, up to 25 lbs.

        Participate in low impact physical activity exercises, dependent on local program delivery.
