Job Description: Our Orchestral String Repair department is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of instruments, including all sizes of violins, violas, cellos and basses both from our stock as well as those owned by the schools and customers we serve. The ideal candidate will have experience working with both student and professional-level instruments and be committed to providing excellent workmanship and customer service. Additionally, less experienced luthiers are welcome to apply and grow on our team. We believe that working on a supported team of professionals is a perfect way to grow personally and professionally, and will not only benefit the individual but also the music community as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair issues with all orchestral instruments
  • Perform general maintenance, cleaning, and adjustments to ensure instruments are in optimal working condition
  • Provide estimates for repair costs and timelines
  • Accurately maintain records within the company’s computer system
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop area
  • Communicate effectively with customers, ensuring they understand the repair process
  • Test instruments to ensure they are fully functional after repairs
  • Maintain inventory of repair parts and tools
  • Collaborate with store staff and leadership to support rental and sales operations
  • Be willing to work weekends and occasional outside events

Qualifications:
  • Prior experience preferred (formal training or apprenticeship preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of all orchestral string instruments
  • Excellent mechanical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • A passion for music and a commitment to quality craftsmanship
  • Ability to lift and move items of various sizes up to 50 pounds
  • Basic computer skills for tracking repairs and inventory and for communication
