Lisle Violin Shop is family-owned and has been in business for over 35 years. Our ideal candidate would share our vision to support players at all levels from professionals to beginners. We believe it is essential to ensure that the next generation will carry on the great traditions of classical music.

 

Lisle Violin Shop is seeking experienced string instrument repair specialists for full-time positions in our workshop. These also offer additional training in a variety of repairs and techniques. Lisle Violin Shop maintains the largest string workshop in Texas to support students, teachers, and professional players. Our workshop handles a wide variety of repairs for stringed instruments and bows and setup and maintenance.

 

Experienced Bow Technician - Compensation: Based on experience and education

  • Must have two years of bow restoration/repair or rehair experience or completion of recognized bow rehair/repair school.
  • This position offers an opportunity to gain experience and refinement of rehair techniques. You will also be able to practice other common repairs, such as but not limited to: Replacing head plates, Windings of various materials, Thumb Leathers and replacing eyelets. More advanced bow repair techniques will be taught as skill and ability levels indicate. Shop tools will be provided.

Repair & Setup Specialist - Compensation: Based on experience and education

  • Multiple Positions Available – Based on Specialty Violin/Viola, Cello/Bass, or All
  • Must have two years previous cello/bass repair or setup experience or be a graduate from a known violin making or repair school)
  • This position offers the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of new instrument setup as well as a vast array of instrument repairs. Shop tools will be provided

All positions entail the following requirements:

  • Be able to work in one of our four locations (Pasadena, Houston (Bissonnet), Cinco Ranch (Katy), Northwest (Houston).
  • Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Be able to pass a background and drug test.
  • Be able to work Monday - Saturday and some overtime in the summer and fall. Shop hours are 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Be punctual, responsible and accountable.
  • Have at least three verifiable references.

The above positions are full time. There is a 90 day probationary period for these positions. Once the 90 day probationary period is completed, you will have the following benefits: vacation time, Simple IRA, and company provided health insurance. Nashville Violins is looking for part-time repair/setup luthiers for all violin-family instruments.

Luthier Skills and Qualifications:
Applicant should be experienced with using their set of personal hand tools and knives, and know how to maintain and sharpen them. Applicant should be able to perform duties such as new violin setup, fitting bridges, soundpost fitting and adjustment, open seams and crack repair, fitting and adjusting pegs, fingerboard and nut work, and other repairs or adjustments for violin, viola, cello and bass. Experience or formal education as a violin luthier preferred.
 
Additional Job Duties:
Maintaining paper and computer-based logs and records, interacting with customers in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication, maintaining a clean shop, and additional duties including retail sales, and interactions with other staff members and teachers as needed.

Nashville Violins is a full-service violin shop with an active customer base, and has been in business over twenty years in Nashville, TN. Nashville, known as Music City, has a strong school music community, youth orchestras, colleges and universities, and a wide range of amateur and professional musicians of all genres including classically-trained and commercial musicians. The Paul A. Schmitt Violin Shop is a full-service violin shop located at Schmitt Music Company in the thriving arts city of Minneapolis, MN.  Schmitt Music is a well-known and respected musical instrument dealer in the Twin Cities, owned and operated by five generations of the Schmitt family. The Paul A. Schmitt Violin Shop is expanding to serve players at all levels and expects to be regarded as one of the best violin shops in the region. We are currently looking for full-time luthiers to help us maintain our student level violins, violas, cellos, and basses. We work directly with manufacturers to supply student and school instruments that are above average in quality and sound. So additional responsibilities will include the set-up of new instruments and as well as repair of our student and school instrument stock. Compensation starts at $13 per hour but will increase to $14 per hour after a three month evaluation period.
