Step 2: Test
Next-Generation Accuplacer Placement Testing
Students may take the Accuplacer test remotely for no charge, and we are encouraging the use of remote testing whenever possible. Students should contact the Testing Coordinator to set up remote testing. See below for more information
MSC Southeast utilizes the Next-Generation Accuplacer test as part of the enrollment and placement process. Math and Reading (English) tests are available to take.
- You may be exempt from taking all or a part of the Next-Gen Accuplacer. Students’ class placement will first be determined using current ACT, SAT, or MCA scores, which are are valid for 5 years. Please submit your ACT, SAT, or MCA scores to Jessica Beier at Jessica.email@example.com. Submit previous college transcripts to the Registrar’s office. Check to see if you are exempt.
- The Math and Reading (English) Next-Gen Accuplacer is required for most programs. However, if you choose not to take the math Accuplacer, you will be placed in a developmental math class. The only way to advance-place in math is to provide a placement score from one of the following assessments: ACT, SAT, MCA or Next-Gen Accuplacer (see Placement Test Scores). Unless you are exempt, most MSC Southeast students are required to take the Reading Next-Gen Accuplacer.
- You may defer taking the Math and/or Reading Next-Gen to another semester. If you choose to do this, it may limit course selection during your initial registration and could prolong your time in your program. This could also make advising more difficult and require you to take classes out of sequence. If the test is required for your program, it will have to be completed eventually.
Be sure to take the Accuplacer test very seriously. MSCS has mandatory placement. These scores will place you in the appropriate level math and English courses. If you perform well on the test you are likely to save a great deal of time and money on your education! Be ready for the tests - see below for more information on preparing for the Next-Gen Accuplacer.
